The Decoys are a Canadian rock band based out of Kamloops, BC. Though the musical influences of each member of the group varies greatly, at the core the band takes it’s musical roots from the classic rock of the 60s and 70s; the spirit of artists like Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Young can be found at the heart of the band. The Decoys began in 2008, when Stanley self-released his debut recording, “The Life & Times EP.” Originally intending the EP to be a collection of folk songs, he later pursued a more rock based sound due to encouragement from producer Henry Small (Prism, Scrubbaloe Caine, John Entwisle Band). The songs on “The Life & Times” showcase a variety of styles, from the classic blues rock of first single, “Lookin’ All The Time”, to the singer/songwriter folk of “Ichabod Crane”. The songs found airplay on Kamloops’ 98.3 CIFM, 92.5FM The X, CBC West and “Looking All The Time” was featured on the compilation “K-Comp Volume 1” through Kelowna station K96.3FM, in partnership with Music BC.
The band played their first show on November 1st of 2008 at The Leisure Loft in their hometown and they’ve been running full speed ever since. Drummer Sean Poissant joined the band in May of 2010 and by the following month they began recording their first full-length album. “Stripped, Bare, And On Display”, co-produced by the band and Henry Small, was released in August of 2011. The singles “I Know”, “Modern Disaster” and “Why You Gotta Talk To Me Like That?” received steady airplay on many stations in Western Canada. “I Know” was featured on the compilation “Music Makes Meals” to support the Kamloops Food Bank and they also released an original Holiday song on the “Very Vancouver Christmas 5” compilation.
The Decoys have been spreading their love of energetic rock ‘n’ roll in rowdy bars throughout Western Canada. With a new album currently being recorded and new towns being added to the touring schedule all the time, The Decoys’ modern take on classic rock will be difficult to miss.
